Saftronics received an order for the manufacturing, delivery and commissioning of an SX-EW Rectifier and Transformer from Mimbula Minerals in Chingola, Zambia. The 3.3MW thyristor-controlled 12-pulse double star in-phase counter parallel connected rectifier system was manufactured and delivered in record time, supporting the client’s project schedule and operational requirements.
Designed for the Solvent Extraction & Electrowinning (SX-EW) process, the system provides a stable, high-current DC power supply essential for efficient copper production. Rated at 37,000A DC with an output voltage range of 0–90V DC, the rectifier and transformer were engineered to deliver reliable performance in a demanding industrial environment.
The Saftronics scope of supply also included an IP40-rated eHouse substation housing the thyristor rectifier, control panel and two 25kA motorised isolation switches, providing a complete, integrated power conversion solution. This approach simplified installation, reduced on-site construction requirements and ensured efficient commissioning.
Mimbula Minerals’ Phase 1 project was designed to produce 10ktpa of 99.97% pure copper.
