For nearly 60 years, Saftronics has been at the forefront of power electronics in South Africa and across Africa. Founded in 1966 by Bonne Posma, Saftronics was established to address a clear gap in the local market. At the time, South Africa’s power electronics sector was growing rapidly, yet all equipment was being imported, with no local manufacturers competing in the space. Recognising this opportunity, Posma founded Saftronics — combining “SA” for South Africa with a contraction of “electronics” — creating what would become the first local power electronics company in South Africa.

From these early beginnings, Saftronics quickly established itself as a trusted supplier of power electronic solutions. Within just over a decade, the company’s growth and success attracted the attention of Murray & Roberts, which acquired Saftronics and merged it with Stone Platt Electrical to form Amalgamated Power. However, the strength of the Saftronics brand soon led to a return to the original and well-established name.
