Permanent Magnet DC Motor

Slip Ring Motors

Slip ring motors are the motors of choice whenever high start-up and breakaway moments need to be realized, or wherever extreme load surges occur, or relatively low start-up currents in relation to the output are required.  The modular layout permits a wide variety of cooling types and degrees of protection, as well as diverse mounting options.  At the same time, the basic construction of the motor follows the ever same standard.  This mature, field-proven model translates into production cost savings without cutting corners in terms of design.

Features:

• High power efficiency and lowest running costs
• Compact design, small dimensions, and low weight
• Reliable and durable bearing construction
• Great vibration signatures and low maintenance costs
• Windings in temperature class F (VPI)
• Reliability and long life expectancy
• High load capacity
• Low noise emissions
• Custom models according to specs

LV AC Siemens Motor

AC LV Siemens IE3 Motor

IE3 motors are characterized by higher efficiency compared to the previous IE1 / IE2 motors.  In the higher output range, IE1 or IE2 motors are already extremely efficient - as power reduces, efficiency deteriorates. For this reason, the legally required efficiency increase of the IE3 motors is higher in the lower performance range. The required efficiency increase for IE3 motors is usually implemented using lower rated motor currents. In the low-end performance ranges, the required efficiency increase is greater and the deviation in the rated current is therefore greater here. The higher the power rating, the lower the deviation of the rated currents compared to IE1 / IE2 motors. IE3 Premium Efficiency motors from Siemens are available with power ratings from 500 W to 375 kW in countless standard variants. The IEC motors are uniformly designed in compliance with efficiency class IE3 for the scope of EU Regulation 640/2009 from 750 W to 375 kW. IE3-compliant induction motors from Siemens are characterized by their reliability, long service life, and ruggedness.  The motors are well-suited to all applications in the manufacturing and process industries. Permanent Magnet DC Motor

A Permanent Magnet DC Motor is a DC motor with permanent magnet poles. The magnets are radially magnetized and placed on the cylindrical steel stator's inner sides. This motor does not have a field coil. It generates torque by the interaction of armature flux and permanent flux. Basically, permanent magnets are used to generate the magnetic field required for DC motor operation. These motors offer continuous torques from 0.117 to 3.955 Nm, and peak torques from 0.883 to 24.716 Nm Typical applications: Robotics and factory automation • Pick-and-place robots • Positioning tables • Welding wire feeders • Automatic guided vehicles • Barcoding equipment Computer and office equipment • Copier and microfilm machines • Printers / plotters • Tape drives Industrial equipment • Automatic door actuators • Material handling equipment • Packaging, marking and sorting equipment • Machine tools • Web drives • Gimbal controlled cameras for security systems • Antenna drives Medical equipment • Electric wheelchairs and scooters • Bio-analytical equipment • Medical pumps • Centrifuges

Squirrel Cage Motors

Squirrel cage induction motors are commonly used in many industrial applications. They are particularly suited for applications where the motor must maintain a constant speed, be self-starting, or there is a desire for low maintenance. Squirrel cage motors work the same as most other induction motors and the only difference between them is in the specific interaction between rotor and stator. These motors maximize electromagnetic induction by utilizing rotor bars to interact with the stator’s electromagnetic field. The stator usually contains windings of wire which carry an AC; this current, changes in sync with a sinusoidal alternate, which then changes the current direction in the wire windings. Some advantages of squirrel cage induction motors are:
  • They are low cost
  • Require less maintenance (as there are no slip rings or brushes)
  • Good speed regulation (they are able to maintain a constant speed)
  • High efficiency in converting electrical energy to mechanical energy (while running, not during startup)
  • Have better heat regulation (i.e. don’t get as hot)
  • Simple starting arrangement
  • Simple and rugged construction
These motors are commonly used in:
  • Centrifugal pumps
  • Industrial drives (e.g. to run conveyor belts)
  • Large blowers and fans
  • Machine tools
  • Lathes and other turning equipment

Series, Shunt or Compound Motor

The term ‘DC motor’ is used to refer to any rotary electrical machine that converts direct current electrical energy into mechanical energy. DC motors can vary in size and power from small motors in toys and appliances to large mechanisms that power vehicles, pull elevators and hoists, and drive steel rolling mills.

A simple DC motor uses a stationary set of magnets in the stator, and a coil of wire with a current running through it to generate an electromagnetic field aligned with the centre of the coil. One or more windings of insulated wire are wrapped around the core of the motor to concentrate the magnetic field.

The windings of insulated wire are connected to a commutator (a rotary electrical switch), that applies an electrical current to the windings. The commutator allows each armature coil to be energised in turn, creating a steady rotating force (known as torque).

When the coils are turned on and off in sequence, a rotating magnetic field is created that interacts with the differing fields of the stationary magnets in the stator to create torque, which causes it to rotate. These key operating principles of DC motors allow them to convert the electrical energy from direct current into mechanical energy through the rotating movement, which can then be used for the propulsion of objects.

While the principles are the same across variants, there are actually several different types of DC motors, which offer specific advantages and disadvantages over each other.  See product description below for more information.
